A well-crafted resume is essential when job searching or when looking for an internship to further develop your skills and experience.

While it certainly can be stressful, it doesn’t have to be! Knowing exactly what you should include in your resume will remove a lot of stress in the process.

Here are five aspects to always have as a part of a well-crafted resume.

  1. Contact Information - Your name, email address and phone number should be listed at the very top of your resume. Since over 89% of recruiters use LinkedIn, you will want to include the url to your personal LinkedIn profile as well. Be sure that you have an appropriate voicemail message the employer will hear if they leave a message. Additionally, if you need a more professional email address, set a new one up strictly for your job search.
  2. Relevant Experience - Include the company name, dates of employment or internship, your position title and detailed description of tasks and accomplishments. Stand out even more by including statistics, growth, or direct deliverables that resulted from your work. By doing so, the employer gains a better understanding of the value you bring.
  3. Education - Starting with your current college or university, include the name of the institution, field of study (major and minor), and expected date of graduation. Additional information you can include would be GPA, relevant electives, memberships, or awards and honors.
  4. Skills - When detailing your skills, be specific and include skills most relevant to the job description. For example, rather than saying “punctual”, you can say “Ability to meet tight deadlines with ease and tact.” Programs or software platforms, languages you speak, or other certifications you hold can be listed in this section.
  5. Other Relevant Experience - This section can include any volunteer work, serving on a committee, or club experience. Remember to include detailed, yet concise, descriptions that support your qualifications for the position.
